NOTICE OF RACE
1. Invitation
Parkstone Yacht Club invites competitors in monohull dinghy
classes with a Portsmouth Yardstick, listed on the RYA list for 2008, together
with Shrimper, XOD, Dolphin, Redwing, Flying Fifteen, Moth & Dart 18 classes to
Poole Week 2008 to be held from 24 August – 29 August 2008.
The racing includes the Enterprise Blue Jib and the Albacore
Trailer Trophy on 24 and 25 August, see section 8 of this NoR.
The Wayfarer National Championships will be taking place as part
of Poole Week, boat must enter using the separate NoR for that event.
2. Organising Authority
The Organising Authority will be Parkstone Yacht Club.
3. Rules
Racing will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the
prescriptions of the RYA, the appropriate class association rules, this Notice
of Race and the Sailing Instructions. In the event of any conflict, the Sailing
Instructions will prevail. The Sailing Instructions will be available at time of
registration. The event is designated Category C for all classes not restricted
to category A by their class rules.
4. Entries
a. The completed entry
form must be submitted to Parkstone Yacht Club, Pearce Avenue, Poole, Dorset
BH14 8EH, with the entry fee.
b. The entry fee for the
series will be £75, except that:
For single handed dinghy classes it is reduced to £60.
For Junior competitors (i.e. the helm and crew must be aged
under 18 on 19 August 2008) it is reduced to £35.
For members of Parkstone Yacht Club the entry fee is reduced to
£60.
For members of Parkstone Yacht Club sailing single handed dinghy
classes the entry fee is reduced to £45.
The entry fee for an individual races, regardless of crew
numbers or age, is £15 per day.
c. A late entry
supplement of £10 will be applied to entries received after 16 August 2008.
d. No entries will be
accepted after 1700 hrs on Saturday 23 August 2008.
e. Registration for all
competitors will be at Parkstone Yacht Club between 0900 hrs - 1700 hrs on
Saturday 23 August 2008.
5. Racing
a. Racing will take place
in Poole Harbour and in Poole Bay.
All fleets will start in Poole Harbour.
The XOD and Dart classes may race from the Harbour into Poole
Bay. The Shrimper, Redwings, Flying Fifteen and Merlin Rocket, classes may race
from the Harbour into Poole Bay.
All other classes will race in Poole Harbour .
b. Course details, with a
description of marks, will be set out in the Sailing Instructions.
c. The full schedule of
races will be set out in the Sailing Instructions.
d. If 6 or more entries
are received for an individual class by Friday 15 August 2008, a start may be
provided for that class.
e. The start of the first
race will be on Sunday 24 August 2008 not before 1330 hrs.
f. The provisional times
for class warning signals are as follows:

g. The Warning signal for
any class may have to be brought forward in the day due to weather and tide
conditions, especially towards the end of the week. It is anticipated that the
warning signals for Wayfarer and XoD will be at 10:40 and 10:50 respectively on
Thursday 28th and Friday 29th.
h. One race per day will
be scheduled for Shrimper, XOD, Dolphin, Redwing and Handicap classes.
Two races per day will be scheduled for the Flying Fifteen,
Merlin Rocket, Laser, Dart, Albacore and Enterprise classes on two days.
Other classes may sail two races on one or more days; this will
be detailed in the Sailing Instructions
On Thursday 28 August, an additional race, to be designated a
crews race, will be held at the discretion of each class.
Where a 2nd race is scheduled it will start as soon as possible
after the finish of the first race of that day for that class.
6. Scoring
a. The event will be
scored in accordance with RRS Appendix A, using the Low Points system.
b. Four races are
required to be completed to constitute a series.
c. One discard will be
applied when five races have been sailed, and two discards when seven races have
been sailed.
7. Prizes
a. Overall Prizes will be
awarded at the discretion of the Race Committee to the leading competitors in
each class having regard to the number of boats entered.
b. Trophies will be
awarded in accordance with the stipulations of the individual class.
c. Additional special
prizes will be at the discretion of the Race Committee.
d. A full list of
trophies and prizes will be listed in the Sailing Instructions.
e. The Overall Prize
Giving(s) will take place as soon as possible after racing on Friday 29 August
2008 in the Cruiser shed.
8. Albacore and Enterprise Open Meetings Scoring and Prizes.
a. The event will be
scored in accordance with RRS Appendix A, using the Low Points system.
b. These will consist of
two races on each of Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August.
c. One race is required
to be completed to constitute a series.
d. One discard will be
applied when four races have been sailed.
e. Prizes will be awarded
at the discretion of the Race Committee to the leading competitors in each class
having regard to the number of boats entered.
f. Prize giving will take place as
soon as possible after racing on Monday 25 August.
